Revealed: These Are The Photos That Win A Brand New Nikon D750 Camera Kit

Sponsored feature in partnership with Nikon

We teamed up with photography giants Nikon to give away not only some amazing camera kits, but also a photography experience of a lifetime.

To see more about the competition, visit www.mpora.com/NikonIAmAction and to see more on Nikon www.nikon.com/IAmDifferent.

We’ve looked through all of the entries, and selected five lucky winners, all of whom bag themselves the amazing Nikon D750 camera kit. One lucky winner will also receive a one-of-a-kind photography experience.

The standard of all of the entries was incredibly high making it tricky work to pick just five winners. However, after hours of deliberation and only the occasional argument, we’re delighted to introduce the five winning shots and a little bit more about the photographers who took them.

1) Norman Price

The photo was taken from a gondola, which crosses the border, from Chamonix into Italy. I remember thinking “Those crevasses are big”. When I saw the tiny figures, trekking, I realised they were massive. I like it because you don’t spot the figures, at first, and when you do, you will have the same feelings that I had when I first saw them.

I’m 66, now retired, having used to work in IT. I worked for three years in Abu Dhabi, from 1981, one year in Kuwait, and six months in the Netherlands, before returning to my home town, Plymouth. I have two daughters and a wonderful partner, Annette, who I proposed to nineteen years ago, at the top San Giorgio’s campanile, in Venice. We have yet to tie the knot.

I have always enjoyed taking photos when we have been travelling. I remember getting through twenty rolls of film, when we went to Egypt. I don’t believe in curses, but we were told that there was a curse on any photographers taking a photo of a mummified foetus; the photo wouldn’t be successful. Our friend’s camera jammed, and I was told that the machine processing my twenty rolls of film had blown up and destroyed one and a half rolls. You can guess which shot went missing!

I enjoy taking photos of kitesurfing; rough waves and leaping surfers. Cornwall is on my doorstep, so there are always lots of opportunities.

When I got a bridge camera some time ago, I realised that my compact camera had its limitations, and how much better results I could get as the equipment I use impreoved, so I am looking forwards to shooting with a top-of-the range DSLR.

We are touring Vietnam and Cambodia in January, and my Nikon will get a lot of use then. I’m hoping to get some nice shots of Halong Bay.

2) Sam Taylor

Along with my friend, photographer Dan Hearn, I headed up the Higger Tor in the Peak District one evening after uni and took some snaps as the sun went down. I’d seen a shot on the internet one evening which I really liked and it inspired me to take this shot. I love high contrast black and white photos. They allow you to take advantage of textures and silhouettes and I was stoked with the result!

I’m a student studying Geography at the University of Sheffield. London is home, but Sheffield has me hooked and I’m hoping to stay here after I graduate.

Mountain biking is pretty much my life and I often wonder how much better a rider I’d be if I didn’t spend most of the time taking photos of my mates! Between studying, I try and spend as much time riding and taking photos out in the Peak District as possible.

When I turned 15 I decided a DSLR would be a good way to spend my birthday and christmas money one year so I found myself with an entry level camera and spent months learning the ins and outs of it.

It was riding my bike in the peak district that got me seriously into photography. You can point a camera in any direction out there and you get a nice landscape photo. Add in a bike and you’re onto a winner!

I like taking photos of mountain biking. For me, you can’t beat mountain biking for the range of landscapes, intensity of the action and skill involved.

The D750 is such a step up compared to my current camera. I’m hoping to take advantage of the increased megapixels and get some big landscape shots when I’m out riding Queenstown next year.

3) Oskar Dalsgaard

The photo is of my very good friend Jonas Boritz Kristiansen who is a very talented trial rider. It captures him riding for the Danish championship. I used Photoshop to remove all the audience out off the picture, so the only focus is on Jonas and his controlled move.

Im 20 years old, taking a year off from studying to develop my photographing and videography skills further. I also work to earn enough money to go traveling. I plan to go to Asia for three months in the near future.

I first got into photography, when I was 14. I was doing parkour and I needed a way to capture the stunts my friends and I were doing. Ever since, I have recorded and photographed everything that caught my attention, especially action sports.

My favourite thing to capture is skiing, because of its bright colors and high speed action. I going to continue taking photographs, and improving. Of course, now I have an upgrade to the Nikon D750, I’m going to put it to very good use!

4) Andy Bebbington

The photo is actually one of only a few shots showing live action that I have taken. It was was taken at Bristol Balloon Festival, while I was lying on the grass watching a sky divers display.

I’m 52, living and working  in Bristol. I love all sorts of sports as well as music and festivals. Since childhood, I’ve had a keen interest in wildlife, enjoying the outdoors whenever I have the opportunity.

I got into photography in my early 40’s when I saw a picture of a city at night done on a long exposure which I thought was very interesting. I wanted to emulate it myself but didn’t have the equipment.

I have never really done much sports photography, other than trying to photograph my son playing football, and that was with little success. However, I would love to photograph the motorbike Grand Prix one day.

I will use my new Nikon D750 to take landscapes and low light, long exposures. I also intend to take some good wildlife photography.

5) Carrick Armer

This shot is of a friend approaching the lip of the third drop of the Triple Step, on the river Etive in Scotland. The Etive runs close to the road, so every time there’s water you get about a million images taken that are often all very similar, so I was really happy to get a fairly unusual angle and for everything to come together as I wanted it. Looking at it still gives me a little shot of vertigo every time.

I’m 35, grew up in a small village in Cumbria so had the Lake District as my playground. I grew to love the outdoors and action sports from there. I now live in Leeds, work for the NHS, coach a University Canoe Club, and  shoot action and adventure sports in what little free time I have left!

I’ve been taking pictures since I was about seven or eight, and moved up to using film SLRs in my late teens. I held off moving to digital photography, until about 2008 in fact. However, shooting digital has probably taught me the most, since you can see the results instantly

Kayaking is the main sport to photograph. I’ve usually got a camera dry-bagged up in the back of my boat when I’m out on the river. There’s so much to shoot, whether it’s the serious guys dropping big waterfalls or newbies getting out on the water for the first time.

The D750 will help continue my progression in photography. I think of myself as very much still learning, and the new camera will be a fantastic extra tool to help me do just that I’ll be in Cumbria for Christmas and Scotland for the New Year so I won’t be short of places to go and things to see.
