NSFW – Russian hiker’s hematoma video

Sometimes you have to do some pretty nasty things while you’re out in the wild. Just ask Bear Grylls. The guy has done everything from eating liquid faeces to using dead sheep as flotation devices.

Sure, he might have done a load of insane things which none of us would dare to, but we don’t think even Bear has had to give himself surgery while he’s been adventuring in the great outdoors though – possibly because he never gets hurt – but that’s exactly what this crazy Russian did was forced into doing after he got a nasty hematoma while hiking up a couloir. He even made a lovely hematoma video for us.

What exactly is a hematoma? According to Google, it’s a collection of blood outside a blood vessel, which occurs when the wall of a blood vessel, artery, vein or capillary has leaked tissues where they do not belong. According to Google Images, it looks like the worst bruising you’ve ever had in your life. Just Google in ‘hematoma video’ if you really want to learn more (not for the faint-hearted)

So, how can it get so bad that you’d have to perform surgery on it while halfway up a mountain? Well, the more it swells, the worse it gets, and it can only be lessened by grabbing something sharp making an incision into the skin to relieve the pressure of the blood building up.

A lot of this video is in Russia, so we’d be lying if we were saying that we knew entirely what was going on here. One thing is for sure though – you shouldn’t watch this hematoma video if you’re even a little bit squeamish:
