Will This Space Inspired Jacket Revolutionise Outdoors Wear?

One small step for man, one incredibly expensive coat for mankind

Staying warm when you’re exposed to all that nature can throw at you is important, so getting the right jacket is key. So, surely one based on the clobber astronauts bounce around in should do the trick, right?

That’s the thinking behind the release of the Spacelife Jacket. Well, that and the knowledge that most men are big kids and like playing space.

Along with looking a lot like (okay, kind of like) a legit astronaut jacket, the coat comes with a bag of tricks built in. It has blue tooth speakers in the hood, and audio playback buttons sewn into the sleeve.

It’s also made from something called a trilobal fibre, that we don’t really understand, but are assured is waterproof and reflective, which will keep you snug when the weather gets baltic.

There are also a bunch of patches to add to the whole Neil Armstrong feel, and, for reasons we’ll never understand, a functionless aluminium port on the front that looks like the kind of thing the real space guys jettison their poop from. Nice.

If you want to get you hands on one, you’ll have a bit of a wait. They’re not expected to hit the shelves until September 2015. On the up-side, at least that gives you a good while to save the £1194 they’re expected to cost. That’s about the same price as three Burton AK jackets.
