Stages announce Dash computer with cloud-based coaching

Dash computer specifically designed for use with Stages power meter, while Link software provides customised training plans

Until now, Stages users have had to pair the power meter with a third party head unit in order to display data – but the American firm’s now launched a GPS computer with cloud-based training plans to create what it calls ‘the complete power training ecosystem’.

Stages describe the Dash computer as a ‘power-training-optimised GPS head unit’ and it will be available from early 2017 with an RRP of US$399/€399 (UK pricing to be confirmed).

The Dash is the first dedicated head unit for a Stages power meter

Since launching in five years ago, Stages say they have optimised the crank-based power meter, used by Team Sky, for use with third party computers (Team Sky opt for the Garmin Edge). However, as a result, they’ve also seen a gap in the market for a head unit which truly focuses on training and power – or, as Stages say, a ‘highly focused, customisable training device’. That’s where the Dash comes in.

Besides offering the huge range of data you’d expect from a GPS computer which has ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity, the Dash is designed to coach a rider via Stages Link, a cloud-based training system which provides custom-tailored coaching in partnership with Today’s Plan. Link can supply bespoke training plans and daily workouts to help a rider achieve a goal.

Stages Link will also be open to users of third party devices, and while the pricing plan is to be confirmed, riders who purchase a Stages power meter or Dash computer will receive two months free access.

“When a rider buys a power meter, they’re looking for something more than a number – they have a goal,” said Pat Warner of Stages Cycling. “After three years providing power to Team Sky, we’ve realised that athletes from professional to recreational have similar aims: they all want to meet their goals and they need simple guidance and immediate feedback to succeed.

Stages Link can provide customised training plans in partnership with Today’s Plan

“This new Stages ecosystem enables all riders to maximise their performance and meet their goals, with a simple and intuitive interface featuring unrivaled customisation, and training programs that learn and adapt from each rider’s unique characteristics and achievements.”

Meanwhile, Stages have also announced a power meter compatible with the next generation Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 groupset will be available from the first quarter of 2017, with an RRP of US$649.99/€799 (again, UK pricing is to be confirmed).
