Tried and Tested – Sweet sound of the Bud Racing Kawasaki 125 2stroke

The guys at Moto Magazine are used to being invited to test out – and, the manufacturers hope, later favourably review – the latest motocross bikes. Usually, however, they wouldn’t expect to be putting the latest machine through its paces behind closed doors.

That, however, was exactly what happened when Kawasaki asked them to have a go on their new Bud Racing Kawasaki 125 at the SX Concept indoor track in Roye, France. Given that it was winter at the time, weather conditions we less than ideal, so the track actually fitted the bill perfectly. The Moto Magazine team also thought the track could be a smart winter training solution for UK-based Arenacross riders, being only a 90 minute drive from the ferry terminal at Calais.

Chief tester and former two stroke champion Dave Willet was seriously impressed with the bike, which is equipped with a revolutionary aluminium frame, Ohlins suspension, a 270mm Braking front rotor, rear holeshot device and triple clamps. Weight comes in at a remarkably light 208 pounds, so it’s highly suited to those moving on from 85 class bikes. And with its distinctive day-glow green and black Bud Racing graphics, it looks the business too.

But did it deliver on the track? Dave Willet certainly thought so, and judging by the video he definitely didn’t pull any punches when thrashing it round the aforementioned indoor tack. The handling looks to be as responsive as you would expect in a bike of this type, and the lightweight construction lends itself well to tackling those tight corners and tricky obstacles. Have a watch and see what you think. Who knows, it might even inspire you to try out one of these little firecrackers for yourself.
