Designers Propose To Turn Iceland’s Pylons Into Spectacular Works of Art

Just when you thought pylons couldn't get any more exciting.

It’s fair to see that pylons aren’t the sexiest thing in the world. In fact, we’d argue that pylons are probably one of the least sexy things on the planet. That’s not a criticism of pylons. We do genuinely appreciate everything they do for us, it’s just that we’ve never felt the need to walk right up to one, look at it for hours on end, and have our picture taken in front of it.

That was until we saw these awesome designs for some pylons in Iceland. Put forward by Choi + Shine Architects, this project to reinvigorate the country’s pylons is called ‘The Land of Giants.’ Those of you with a sharp eye for detail will no doubt have noticed that the proposed pylons look an awful lot like giant humans made of white metal.

Incredibly, these people-shaped pylons can be created by modifying the existing lattice towers rather than taking them down and starting all over again. Whether you’re excited about pylons or not, it would take someone with a heart of stone not to smile at this wonderfully creative idea. If they get built, you can add it to your list of reasons to visit Iceland.
