This Woman Is Trying To Visit Every Country On Earth In A World Record Time

181 countries down.... 40 days to go

How amazing would it be to visit every single country on the planet?

Everyone who loves to travel knows the joy of going from place to place  and seeing how each country differs in landscape, culture and people, but most of us don’t get the chance to visit even an eighth of the total countries on earth in our lifetime.

Cassandra De Pecol from Connecticut however, is making it her mission to visit every single one and to do it quicker than anyone has ever done it before.

The 27 year old set off on her challenge in July, 2015 and has been making her way around the globe ever since, now with 181 countries out of 196 under her belt and only 15 to go!

The journey that she has embarked on is called Expedition196, with Cassandra traveling as an Ambassador for Peace on behalf of the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism.

The aim behind the institute is to “identify strategies and best practice in creating productive, sustainable, peaceful and welcoming communities through tourism, culture and sport and to share experiences and insights in identifying the potential roles of tourism in reconciliation and socio-economic re-development of countries that have experienced conflict with the aim of building sustainable and peaceful nations.”

Carrying the ‘Declaration of Peace’, Cassandra leaders in front of students of local schools. interacting with the students and discussing with them what their meaning of what peace is.

Very few people have ever attempted this journey in a similar time frame and Cassandra is looking at a space in the Guinness Book of Records for the last few years.

If she finishes in the next 40 days, she will have succeeded in visiting all 196 countries in the quickest documented time in history.

Even if she doesn’t manage to visit the last 15 in that time however, Cassandra will still make it to the record books, for being the first woman on record to travel to all the countries.

Visit Cassie’s site to follow her challenge and have a look at the incredible list of countries she’s already crossed off, as well as the ones she has left to go.

We love a story about someone who isn’t travelling purely for their own means, but also giving something back to each place they go. Cassandra’s journey show s perfectly how we can enhance our world through responsible tourism efforts.
