Meet The Guys Who Went Cliff Diving… With A Massive Trampoline

Remember the high diving board from your local swimming baths? This is that... on steroids

Cliff jumping (not to be confused, of course, with Cliff Rolling) is pretty insane. Forget the controlled, safe world of Tom Daley and his budgie smugglers, where competitors precision-fall into a swimming pool.

No, cliff diving is the unpredictable world of hurling yourself off cliff faces into the waiting water below. But what happens when even that becomes a little too tame?

Like a couple looking to add a little more excitement to the bedroom, this bunch of cliff divers headed to Glory Quarry in Vermont, USA, with some extra equipment to spice things up a little.

The equipment in question was a massive trampoline. We’re not talking one of those ones you see on the front lawns of houses on rough looking estates, often doubling as a bed for dead-beat dads who cant get back into the house after a night on the sauce.

This trampoline was a huge beast, enabling the divers to really fling themselves into the water below. The 12 foot tramp was so large, in fact, that there wasn’t a big enough cliff in their hometown of Connecticut, so they took it in bits to the biggest, flattest spot they knew – Glory Quarry.

“The cliff  was absolutely perfect.” said Mike Berritta, who made the edit. “It’s a big wide open flat slab of marble. It towers 25 feet over the clean, bluish green quarry water below.”

However, just as Wild Bill Shakespeare once said, man cannot live by trampoline cliff jumping alone, and so it proved. The group then headed off around the quarry to some 90 and 110 footers “Both measured” insists Mike, before the eternal doubt of the internet kicks in.

“That 110 foot cliff scared the shit out of me. That was the first cliff I’ve been scared to jump [from] in a very long time.” No wonder. From that kind of height you’re hitting the water at some speed. “58 mph I believe, and man do you feel it” laughs Mike.

Yeah, I think we’ll be sticking to the five metre board at the local swimming baths.
