Here’s Why Throwing Plastic Cups Into The Ocean Might Not Be Such A Bad Thing

This amazing cup dissolves into fish food when it’s littered in the ocean

Littering is a serious problem for our oceans. It’s thought that by 2050, there will be  more plastic in the sea than fish.

Crazy, right?

While proper recycling and a crackdown on littering is an important part of preventing this, a change in the type of materials used is also essential.

Sea Shepherd is a company working to find alternatives to plastic and to find ways of removing plastic debris from the Ocean and the beaches.

They’ve created a cup that not only dissolves in a eco-friendly way, it actually turns into fish food in the ocean!

“If this cup ends up in the Ocean, it will break down into tiny pieces quicker than petrochemical-plastic” says company founder Paul Watson.

“The 100% organic seaweed can then be eaten by fish, birds, and other marine animals.”

What an incredible idea!

Let’s hope that more companies pay attention to ideas like this to make these materials and innovations an easy and affordable option for all of us.
