Rotor Bikes – Q Rings Setup

Starting out as a research team at the Manufacturing Department of Spain’s Aeronautical Engineering School of Madrid back in the mid-90s, ROTOR Bike Components have been providing the discerning cyclist with groundbreaking, precision engineered systems since the 1998. Produced using a combination of highly sophisticated, intelligent design and peerless precision manufacturing, these components constitute some of the most advanced technology available to cyclists across the board, from top competitive professionals to the everyday amateur enthusiast.

With the Q Rings and QXL oval chainrings system, they offer a simpler, more affordable alternative to their popular chainsets. The chainrings utilize ROTOR Bike Components’ signature principle of minimising the loss of torque which occurs after 20 degrees of crank rotation, otherwise known as ‘the dead spot’. By increasing the diameter of the ellipse to coincide with the down stroke of the pedalling cycle, the gear ratio is optimised at the exact point that the leg is able exert maximum force. Conversely, the smaller end of the oval is co-ordinated with the aforementioned ‘dead-spot’ at the end the pedalling cycle.

As ROTOR Bike Components’ in-house sports scientist and product development expert Christie O’Hara explains here, the Q Rings and QXL chainrings enable cyclists to optimise the position of the chainring for their own pedal stroke using four position options. Either by referring to a straightforward set-up guide or using a unique computerised spin scan analysis system, users can analyse the efficiency of their pedal stroke, including right and left power balance. This will produce a visual representation of the pedal stroke and give an average torque angle which allows the correlation of the chainring to the optimum position. Ultimately this increases efficiency and produces more power. For more info on how these revolutionary components can radically improve your cycling, watch the video.
