Brace yourself for shocking news, dear reader. Maybe take a seat if you’re of a nervous disposition. Ready? Here we go:
BASE Jumping can be really dangerous – deadly, even – if you don’t really know what you’re doing. Shocking, right?
One poor dude was seconds away from finding this out the hard way, until Australian BASE Jumping legend Chris ‘Douggs’ McDougall stepped in and saved the hapless numbnuts from what would have been certain death.
BASE Jumping | Everything You Need To Know
Douggs was out teaching a group of students on a BASE Jumping course when he spotted the fella about to jump off a bridge. Eagle eyed, he noticed that the geezer about to jump hadn’t attached any leg straps to his parachute rig.
Without wishing to get too technical, these leg straps are what stop the parachute rig from slipping off a jumpers body, leaving them to free-fall to certain death. Imagine straps that go around your leg. Like leg straps.
BASE Jumping Records: The Highest BASE Jump, The Lowest BASE Jump, The Most BASE Jumps
Happily, Douggs got to the fella just in time, and stopped him from jumping. Maybe more remarkably, he only used the word ‘fuck’ eight times within 30 seconds, setting a new world record for any Australian.
We’re just joshin’. We’ve long thought of Douggs as one of the raddest fellas on the planet, with his years of BASE Jumping, and his desire to teach people how to do it the correct, and safe way. However, he can now look himself in the mirror and genuinely call him self a hero. Or, more likely, a “fucking hero”. Hats fucking of to you, Douggs.
