OMM takes its name from the Original Mountain Marathon, an annual event (now with several spin-off editions around the world) which is a true test of endurance ability. It’s a two day trail running race around a series of checkpoints, but what makes it particularly tough is that you have to carry all your gear with you – tent, sleeping bag, the lot.

As such, you’ll massively appreciate any weight-saving you can make. Which is why all of OMM’s gear is designed to be as lightweight and as multi-functional as possible. The Mountain Raid sleeping bag picture here is a great example.

Well, we say sleeping bag. This is actually a jacket that attaches to a half sleeping bag at the bottom. The advantage of that of course is that if stops you having to pack a jacket and a sleeping bag as separate items, saving you weight. You’ll make further weight savings because all of this – both the jacket and the sleeping bag – are built seriously lightweight.

The sleeping bag is insulated with Primaloft Gold, a warm synthetic insulation. OMM have cut down still more weight by having thicker insulation at the top where it is needed most. The jacket itself is a stand alone product, sold separately. It has a windproof face fabric and, like the sleeping bag, uses Primaloft Gold as the insulating layer.
