Vaude Terraquattro 3P Tent | Review

A unique design from Vaude has produced an easily-pitched tent you can rely on

At first glance it might look a bit strange, but the Terraquattro three-person tent from Vaude is a bit of kit built for convenience. As the photos show, the poles actually go on the outside of the tent, rather than between the inner and the outer. This means the piece pitches as one – all you have to do to get it upright is pop the anchors in at each end, wrap an elastic cord over the poles and hook them on, and hey presto, your tent is pitched. It takes a matter of minutes.

The exterior pole system system also makes it an incredibly secure tent. Come wind, rain or hail you’ll be smiling dry and comfy inside your Vaude Terraquattro. There’s a generous 120mm of headroom in the inner tent, and enough sleeping room to fit three well-arranged campers, or two people incredibly comfortably.

“This season might not be the winter of your discount tent but the Vaude Terraquattro is worth every penny.”

The flysheet and the groundsheet are highly waterproof, with the former withstanding a hydrostatic head of up to 5,000mm and the latter a hydrostatic head of up to 6,000mm, more than enough for the Great British outdoors. The mesh ventilation on the inner doors is paired with outer doors which can be rolled halfway or completely up to provide ventilation if you need it.

Storage pouches have been added on the inner for extra convenience and there are two porch vestibules, giving you twice as much space under the eaves. The two porches also mean you’ve got a door at each end of the tent, making access easier. It also ensures you always have somewhere sheltered to do your cooking whichever way the wind is blowing.

The Terraquattro range has been the recipient of a recent upgrade in fabric, which has made these tents both lighter and more durable than ever before – this now weighs just 3.5kg. The total pack down size of 54 x 17cm is impressive for a three-man tent as well.

The Terraquattro is a perfect option for those who are looking to get out into the wild for a few days at a time. It costs £360 so while this season might not be the winter of your discount tent (to paraphrase Shakespeare), it’s worth every penny. For that price you are getting an incredibly technical piece of gear – and something you know you can rely on.
