When you head to the mountains, it seems miraculous that the mess you made of the piste the day before is all of a sudden fixed. It’s like Santa has been and the gifts he’s brought are freshly groomed piste, and avalanche-free back country.
But, as well all know, Santa is on his eleven month sabbatical for most of the year, so that rules him out. It turns out this nocturnal miracle is actually performed by the mountain teams, just like this one in Mammoth, USA.
From fixing wiring on chair lifts, to bombing steeps that could produce avalanches, these guys get to work when you get to the bar, working through the night so you can get your turns in the next day.
But, however hard they work, neither they or anybody else can stop angry Italian skiers stamping on your topsheet like it’s fun.
