Gelande Quaff is the sport/drinking game taking the skiing world by storm, and after watching the short film on the epic from the people over at Powder Magazine, we guarantee you’re going to want to get involved.
The basic rules of Gelande Quaff are pretty damn simple:
- Throw the beer
- Catch the beer
- Drink the beer
Of course, it’s a little more complex than that. The beer has to catch air after being slid, you have to catch the beer by the handle – if you’re playing strictly that is, and not doing mad freestyle sh*t – and then you have to chug the beer without spilling barely anything at all when it’s in your hand.
The game dates back to 1986, in Bear claw Cafe, Teton Village Wyoming. Wade McKoy, co-creator recalls being in the bar on a white-out day on the mountain, when a bartender slid a beer down the bar to a guy who let it go off the edge before catching it. And so a sport was born.
We’ll let the wonderful documentary below tell you everything more you need to know about “the cult of quaff”…
