For those who have been trapped under a rock, in a microwave or have been lost in Ikea for the past few years, there’s a bit of a new craze going round in the world of mountain biking at the moment, dividing riders as it goes – fat bikes.
Fat bikes are basically mountain bike frames with big fat wheels, they come in different shapes and sizes like all bikes, but all mostly used as all-season bikes.
What they are not normally used for… is BMX. But SE Bikes have just brought out a ‘BMX innovation’ – the ‘Fat Ripper – one part fat, three parts BMX’.
Surely though… surely, even the biggest advocate of fat bikes couldn’t think that the things would lend themselves well to street BMX? Well, you’d be surprised…
“Built with legendary alloy Floval tubing, a Looptail rear end, and Landing Gear forks, it screams PK Ripper. But add in the 26 x 3.5” tires, 65mm wide rims, and disc brakes, and it’s not like anything you’ve ever seen before.
“The Fat Ripper has been in testing, under the microscope for the past nine months. Its creator and SE Brand Manager, Todd Lyons, has been plowing, jumping, bumping, dadonking, and destroying everything in its path. Obstacles and terrain that was previously thought as not ridable can now be ridden.”
The Fat Ripper is available now! If you’re looking for a way to get a go on a fat bike but don’t have the money spare though – you’re in luck.
