It’s a weekday morning. You wake up in the warmth of your duvet. But here’s the kicker – you’ve got to get up and go to work.
You try to the best of your ability, but it’s cold outside. And you’re warm. You wrestle with the duvet in your mind, only tightening your firm grip in reality, but just as you’re dozing off and about to lose the battle, your flatmate knocks on the door.
He/she speaks nine words that make you spring out of bed in an instant, spontaneously causing mountain bike gear to form around you, and as you pull on the full face and goggles, text your manager to let them know you’re too sick to make it in today and grab the full-suspension mountain bike perched next to your bed, you know it’s going to be a good day.
Those nine words that caused such a stir: “Morning man! You seen the new Coastal Crew edit?”
For those who haven’t come across the coastal crew before, they’re a group of mountain bikers from the British Columbian coast who drop some of the dopest edits you’ll see all year; the type that look visually stunning, feature some awesome riding and leave you desperate to get out on your bike.
The crew used to consist of Dylan Dunkerton, Curtis Robinson and Kyle Norbraten, who recently proposed at the end of Red Bull Rampage, but it was announced that Norbs was leaving the crew at the start of October.
It was tough news to take for many that Norbs was moving on, but the latest edit from the Crew, featuring Curtis and shot and edited by Dylan is sure to put a smile back on the face of the mountain bike community.
Writing on Pinkbike, the crew said: “BC’s coastal rainforests are known to be some of the most lush and beautiful forests in the world, but this summer things changed.
“After months without rain, BC began to go up in flames. It’s not uncommon to see forest fires in the summer time in BC, but it’s usually in the arid, dry interior areas. Things were different this year. Everything was up in flames, even the coastal area and for the first time in our lifetimes we had a forest fire here in Sechelt – on the Sunshine Coast.
“Fire crews from all over were brought in to help reduce the spread of the fire and keep it away from Sechelt. After weeks of battling the blaze the burn was contained, resulting in 423 hectares of torched forest. This presented an opportunity we couldn’t pass up, it was time to take out the tools and load up the camera gear.”
Safe to say this edit will make you want to get out riding immediately – it’s one of those types – but spare a couple of minutes for the outtakes first. A whole load of these shots are A-graders that easily could’ve made the final edit as well.
