Now in its 14th year, Simple Session, held in Tallinn, Estonia, has become one of the biggest Skate and BMX events on the planet. Based on the simple premise that it is a celebration of both BMX and Skate, it has developed into one of the purest forms of competitions within the two sports.

With over 180 riders, the format  goes with four man jam sessions to get through the qualifiers, the semi finals and then a final. Riders do not go head to head in heats, but just try to nail a run which will score them enough points to put themselves in the top 25 overall for BMX and the top 31 in Skate to progress. The format allows for progression and total freedom of creativity and not just trying to get by the guys you’re up against.

Saturday was all about qualification. In the Skate 77 riders went looking to nail a score that would put them in the top 31, with the top three going straight to the final, the next 28 going into tomorrow morning’s semis. Phil Zwijsen from  Belgium, Max Kruglov from Russia and Greg Lutzka from the USA booked those three final berths with some sick runs, the following 28 will skate it out in the semi finals from 10am GMT on Sunday morning. In the BMX 99 riders went in four man qualifying runs, unlike the Skate there are no semi finals, the top 25 going through to tomorrows final. Mexican Kevin Peraza set the pace with the run of the day followed closely by Canada’s Drew Bezanson, Garrett Reynolds and the UK’s Alex Kennedy.

The finals of the BMX will be live on Dig and RideUk tomorrow afternoon. The action starts with Red Bull BMX Street Best Trick contest at 3pm GMT, then at 4.30pm we get into the final runs, tune in, see you there.
