Making bold design choices is a tricky business. Take the YT Industries Capra, reviewed here by Steve Jones for DirtTV. Some people might think it’s the coolest thing they’ve seen since the Light Cycles from the film Tron, others are going to say that it looks like something Clive Sinclair might have dreamt up on an off day. But as Steve rightly explains, it’s not what it looks like that counts, it’s what you can do with it. So what is it about the YT Capra that’s getting everybody so excited?

YT Industries spent two years developing the carbon enduro Capra, during which time staff were forbidden from revealing details to the press, and design plans and details of components were kept closely under wraps. The name translates as ‘Goat’, which the German manufacturers explain reflects its ingenious harmonisation of both downhill and uphill capabilities. Simply, it’s like an ultra high tech enduro and an all terrain bike in one.

The Capra uses a head angle of 65.5 degrees, a seat angle of 75 degrees, a short chainstay, and has 27.5 inch wheels with 170mm travel. The single piece look of the frame is achieved by using carbon monocoque technology, and despite weighing just 2.4kg (in the case of the medium size version) can reportedly cope with a 30% higher weight load than an aluminium equivalent.

If you like the look of the Capra, the good news is that YT Industries are releasing a range of models for 2016, so there will be updated specifications and plenty of options to choose from. We just hope you’ve got deep pockets, as prices will range from around £1,800 to just under the £4,000 mark plus shipping.
