There are many ways to make a name for yourself in snowboarding, but Sheffield’s Charlie Rowland seems to be going an odd way about it. He’s put out one video entitled ‘How to joyride a golf-cart’, another which features him a shredding on a twenty year old board (which by the look of him could have belonged to his granddad), and now this.
‘Naked park run’ means just exactly that – a freestyle snowboard run in the park, naked. There’s a few of them in the video, so how Charlie persuaded his mates to join him in this frankly idiotic escapade is a mystery – unlike these chaps’ privates. We suppose us Britishers often get accused of being overly uptight (stiff upper lip and all that), so maybe it’s a good thing someone is showing those Euro snowbums that we’re not afraid to let it all hang out once in a while. But, on the other hand, a little dignity goes a long way too.
Anyway, if you can stomach it there are bound to be some decent jumps in this, although surely even Charlie won’t be riding at his best under these conditions. In case you’re interested, the footage was shot in Avoriaz, a purpose-built French resort which sits on a sloped shelf above a pretty severe cliff just a few miles up from Morzine.
So there you have it. Look out for Charlie’s next video ‘Riding an upturned ironing board in mum’s best cardigan’, possibly. Or just look up his most recent proper edit and see what sort of snowboarding he’s really capable of. It’s up to you.
