Fantasy surfing teams around the world were decimated in Round two of the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast, as a goofy footers dominated and three favourites bowed out.

Bearing in mind a goofy footer has not won out here for nine years, the fact that Jadson Andre, Travis Logie, Owen Wright and Miguel Pupo all advanced, joining some of their right foot forward brethren in the third round breaks the norm.

Jordy Smith came up against a rejuvenated Tiago Pires, the Portuguese man coming back from injury with some solid turns and a little barrel to outpoint Smith easily. Jordy needs to come back strong in Margaret River to get the title campaign on track.

John John Florence, who most consider as Kelly Slater’s natural long term heir for dominance of the world tour, came totally unstuck. With a dropping tide and inconsistent swell, Travis Logie picked off the right waves and won, another notch for the goofs.

Elsewhere Sebastien Zietz couldn’t compete with Jadson Andre’s solid backhand attack, The Brazilian was simply surfing faster and harder than the hotly tipped Hawaiian and took another scalp for the goofy brigade.

Julian Wilson wasn’t going to fall though, he surfed a solid heat to progress. Meanwhile Kolohe Andino ditched his air game and laid down some serious hacks, to make round three. World Champ Mick Fanning also got through, he’ll meet Dane Reynolds again in round three, a perilous matchup for the Cooly Kid.
