Thankfully, as a British-based outdoor enthusiast, there's one danger you can be glad you'll never have to face: Bears.
I mean what do you do in situations like this?
A Lucky Escape
This pair of mountain bikers were out for a ride near the resort of Jasper when they were charged no fewer than three times by this massive female grizzly.
Luckily, the first biker managed to cut off the trail to safety, and the second had time to reach his bear spray. But it was too close for comfort...
Exit, Pursued by a Bear
Across the provincial border in British Columbia this jogger was also charged by a grizzly, which got even closer.
"Holy shit," is about right - no wonder he picks up the pace a bit!
It's Alright, They Can't Get Us...
Funny how the parents reassuring their kid become less and less sure of themselves as the bears keep going...
Being David Attenborough's Cameraman Isn't Always Great...
It's always high on everyone's list of dream jobs, but there are times when being a BBC nature cameraman isn't so great...
That's half a tonne of polar bear leaning against that shelter!
When Black Bears Get Vicious
Black bears are usually reckoned to be less dangerous than their grizzly or polar cousins. This one obviously didn't get the memo.
The Russian translates as: "Quickly, quickly, get in the car." Thanks mate, he probably could've guessed that!
When Shouting Isn't Enough
"With all of us here, he can't do much," says one of the fishermen at the start of this video. How wrong he is...
Apologies for the Language
The user who uploaded this apologised to Youtube for his use of language. Actually we think he was fairly restrained...
Plucked from the Jaws of the Beast
In Chukotka in Russia's far east, hungry polar bears started roaming the streets in 2011.
This woman, who was drunk at the time, was attacked while squatting down to have a piss next to the abandoned building the bears were living in.
We can only think the alcohol must've softened the bear's blows because she gets badly mauled before a well-aimed vodka bottle chases the beast off.
Bear Turned Troll
This black bear looks like it's just winding the joggers up in this video from Canada.
Apparently by backing off, these guys are doing exactly the opposite of what most animal experts recommend when meeting a bear.
They're pretty lucky he eventually gets bored of their stinky chat...
The Least Threatening Bear Attack Ever
Back to Russia, where this man endures a sustained and vicious attack from a bear.
Thankfully the bear in question is only a foot tall, and probably just looking to play. all together now: Awwwwwww...
