This Guy Quit His Job To Live On Beaches And Kayak Around The World With A Stray Dog

Sergi Basoli and Nirvana the dog have been adventuring together for three years

It feels like we hear stories about people leaving their old lives behind for adventure all the time here at Mpora. This story however, is one of our favourites.

When Sergi Basoli, an engineer from Barcelona, quit his job three years ago to travel and kayak around the Mediterranean coast, he didn’t expect to pick up any company along the way, but that changed when he found Nirvana the dog.

Basoli found the little dog in the street in Alghero, Sardinia, ill and confused – and decided he had to take him with him.

Nirvana and Sergi manage to afford their bohemian adventure lifestyle by catching fish from the kayak and preparing it on a self-made stove, stashed at the front of the kayak.

Nirvana has proven to be a hit online and is now known as the ‘Sailor Dog’

Every night, the two set up camp on a beach and use natural shelter and the little equipment they carry around with them for comfort, trying to stick to the rule of never paying for shelter as far as they can.

Any money the two do need to live, Sergi earns by making shell jewellery and selling it at the places he visits.

Nirvana has proven to be a hit online and is now known as the ‘Sailor Dog’ across Instagram and other social media sites.
