SUP boarding is a peaceful and relaxing thing to do. Or, at least, that’s what it’s meant to be like. For Matt Minich and Peter Nelson, who recently went for some SUPing off the coast at Manhattan Beach, the reality of it turned out to be very different indeed.

This video, posted to Matt’s YouTube page, shows the remarkable moment a dolphin launched out of the water at him and knocked him clean off his board. Fortunately for Matt, he wasn’t hurt in the collision and swam away from the freak accident with one incredible story to tell and some jaw-dropping footage to prove it.

The dolphin was unavailable for comment.
