Have you ever wished that your bike could fly? Think of the freestyle airtime you could get, or the time you could chop off that commute to work.
Well, it turns out the answer to two-wheeled flight has been right in front of us for over 50 years – although we’re not sure you could take it to a skate park.
“Think of the airtime you could get with one of these!”
Check out this video of the Southampton students from 1963 who made a flying bike and bagged £5k in the process – that’d be like netting about £50,000 by modern day standards!
To be honest, the video is worth watching for the hilarious old school voiceover if nothing else.
“They built with hope in their hearts and with the spirit of the old pioneers,” the narrator tells, highlighting a point that is, of course, of great importance to our viewing pleasure.
Pair the 60s vocab with the retro gear – and the fact that these guys made a pretty awesome two-wheeler plane – and this video is definitely worth a watch.
This guy also managed to put together a flying bike more recently… but we still prefer the 1960s take.
