What do most people think makes a funny tweet these days?
Something that makes an army of One Direction fans send you abuse maybe, or perhaps the infinitely annoying and largely unreadable ‘#hashtagthatgoesonforfartoolong’.
Well, 21-year-old Rayhan Qadar reckons a good laugh can come on the social networking site from tweeting about hitting a cyclist and driving away – and he’s been fired from his job for his efforts.
The Cardiff University graduate sent this tweet a few days back, and as well as a police investigation being subsequently launched, he was quickly sacked from his role as a stockbroker with Hargreaves Lansdown in Bristol.
The tweet was undoubtedly in poor taste, and it’s got to be up there with the least comical jokes of all time if it was indeed intended to be funny.
Nevertheless, the decision has caused plenty of debate on the interweb, with some claiming the sacking was harsh for what was ‘just a bad joke’, and others fully backing the decision.
@RayQ18 If you hit a cyclist, you are obliged to stop. I suggest you call 101 as soon as possible, I will forward the details on.

@bbcnews It doesn’t take a genius to work out that @RayQ18 was joking. Bad joke it may be, but I don’t think it’s a sackable offence.

Either way, it’s probably best to watch what you tweet in the future, Rayhan… But do you think that he should’ve kept his job?
