Here’s What It Looks Like To Take On The Perfect Mountain Bike Drift Track At Over 40mph

Stevie Smith and Brook Macdonald let loose in the British Columbian back country...

Drifting around on a mountain bike must be one of the greatest experiences in life. You’re not entirely in the driving seat whenever it happens, but at the same time, if you’ve been doing it for long enough, you know exactly what’s going on.

You can feel where your bike is going to skid, where it’s going to drift, where it’s going to finish. The beauty of it is in the fact that there’s only a certain amount you can do to send the bike where you want, but if you do it right, you’re in near enough complete control, while feeling tantalisingly on edge at exactly the same time.

But how do you control your drifting when you’re flying at over 70km/h? Well, you need a hell of a lot of experience, confidence and absolutely perfect conditions – which is just what downhill riders Stevie Smith and Brook Macdonald had in the video above.

Shot in British Columbia, the segment above is the latest in the ‘Mind The Gap’ series dropping in the lead up to the highly anticipated Teton Gravity Research film ‘unReal’ this June.

The film is all about going bigger and better, doing what people didn’t think doable in places people barely even knew existed. The custom-drift track in the feature above was made especially for Stevie to shred hard on, and it goes without saying that it makes for a brilliant watch.
