On the 3rd of June, 1965, Edward H. White II became the first American to “walk” in space. To mark the fiftieth anniversary of this momentous occasion, NASA have released some genuinely breathtaking images of humans floating above the earth like the baddies in Moonraker (minus the laser guns).
Whether you’re excited by space, or think it’s just a load of boring old…space, there’s no denying that these photographs are all the right kinds of epic. The epic that makes you look up at the sky, and say things in the style of Matthew Mcconaughey’s character in Interstellar.
We particularly enjoy the retro ones, taken when space exploration was in its infancy and people were going where no one had gone before. Before we go full-on Team America, a big shout out to the Russian Alexey Leonov who achieved a successful space walk in March 1965 (beating Edward H. White II by three months).
