American acrobat, daredevil, and all-round lunatic Nik Wallenda has completed a mind blowing high wire walk, without a safety net or harness. Oh, and just incase that’s not enough, he did this while blindfolded.
If you’re not sure how much his lack of sight affected him, try standing on just one of your legs and see how long you can balance. Now try it with your eyes closed. Gets much trickier, doesn’t it. So how about trying it on a high-wire slung between two sky scrapers. Crazy, isn’t it.
It’s fair to say that Nik’s got form when it comes to things like this. The 35 year old is part of the famous Flying Wallender’s Family, who’ve been doing mental stuff like this for over six generations. Nik himself has already successfully crossed the grand Canyon and Niagara Falls on a tight rope.
The feat took place 179meters from the ground, on a wire slung between the 65 story Maring City Towers in Chicago. Quite why somebody would want to try a stunt like this in the ‘Windy City’ is beyond us. Surely the ‘Quite Sunny City Where There’s Never Any Wind’ would have been the more sensible option.
In fact, winds at the top of the towers were measures at a staggering 25mph, which must have made this amazing crossing even more perilous.
So, now Chicago is off the bucket list, what is Wallender focusing on doing next? Apparently theEiffel Tower and Egypt’s pyramids are appealing. Rather you than us, Nik. Rather you than us.
