There are some moments when you’re really reminded of the impact that someone’s sporting passion can have on their lives – and the story of BMX rider Stu Crumpton is definitely one of them.
Stu was diagnosed with kidney cancer, a tragic and life-changing development that meant he had to go under the knife and left him fearing for his life.
His Mates set out on a quest to get him his dream bike…
So, to help him on his recovery, his mates Mark and Steve decided they’d do try and give him a present that would keep him going and give him something to work on.
They decided to set out on a quest to get him his dream bike – Eddie Fiola’s famous yellow GT Performer, or more recently, a model from his follow-up range the EP Proformer, with the idea that as he recovered, and as and when he felt up to it, he could work on putting the bike together.
Now, not only were the guys able to gather the money for the frame, forks and bars they originally intended to buy, they were even able to get in contact with Eddie Fiola himself, who recorded a short message for Crumpton and immediately agreed to supply all the parts they needed at cost price.
In the end, Mark and Steve and their contacts in the BMX community were able to chip in and get Stu the full bike set up, and his reaction to the gesture is one of the most heart-warming things we’ve seen.
If you ever need reminded that it’s not all about the competition, the edits or even just looking rad, then this is the video to do it. It’s all about the love of what you do and riding the bike.
An amazing effort by Mark, Steve and everyone else involved – get well soon Stu and enjoy the new ride!
