Tragedy In California: Action Sports Legend Erik Roner Dies In Fatal Sky Diving Accident

Action sports is in mourning after the death of Nitro Circus star Erik Roner

Sad news reached us last night about the untimely death of Erik Roner. The 39 year old father of two, died in a sky diving accident in Lake Tahoe, California. He died while taking part in a sky dive that marked the opening of a charity golf tournament in the area.

Roner was jumping with three fellow professional Sky Divers including JT Holmes and Aaron McGovern. Reports suggest that Roner hit a tree as he was approaching the landing point. He was killed immediately.

Erik was beloved and respected by the entire action sports world. Before becoming a professional sky diver, Roner was a pro skier, appearing in many films, including Salad Days, Soul Purpose, and Anomaly.

By the turn of the century, Erik was becoming increasingly involved in sky diving, which he mixed with skiing to make some of the most memorable pieces of action sports history, not least the time he Ski BASE Jumped of Cody Peak in Jacksons Hole.

His ability to mix brilliant ideas with outstanding ability produced some iconic pieces of action sports film, which was recognised globally. His talent for both his sports and for producing such incredible pieces of film led to work with Jackass, Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, The Dudesons and, of course, the Nitro Circus team.

In a statement made on the Nitro Circus website, Travis Pastrana said this of his friend:

“Erik was an amazing person who made everyone and everything around him better. His smile, laughter and personality will be missed by everyone at Nitro Circus. Most importantly he has a beautiful wife and amazing kids that will miss him dearly. He is gone… But will never be forgotten.”

Erik Roner’s legacy will be continued by the two children he left behind, daughter Kasper, and son Oskar, and his wife Annika, who our thoughts are with.
