Rock climbing is great. Going up a wall. Struggling to hold on. Reaching out and missing the next hold. Hanging on for dear life. Falling to the ground… And then not dying! Climbing is great.
As far as the not-dying part of the climbing video below goes though, this chap, known only as “John”, sure decided to cut it close.
John was almost at the top of a wall at Eagle Falls in upstate New York when he had a slip and fell down to the floor below. It’s at this point the safety work should’ve kicked in and left him dangling not far below. Only that didn’t happen.
The belay was looking good, the rope was pretty tight, but because the flake was wet, things didn’t go to plan. Luckily, he was caught inched before hitting the ground and presumably falling to his death. Needless to say, he was pretty stoked.
