Terrifying footage has emerged of the deadly avalanche that swept through Mount Everest base camp on Saturday.
The after-effects of the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake that caused this slide are still being felt in Nepal and we’d encourage anyone who wishes to help to donate money to the Red Cross appeal.
German climber Jost Kobusch happened to have his helmet camera on when the earthquake hit, triggering a wave of snow and ice that swept through the camp.
We’d encourage anyone who wishes to help to donate money to the Red Cross appeal.
Kobusch and the others shown in the video all survived, but others were not so lucky – around 18 of the 1,000 or so climbers who were in base camp at the time lost their lives and there were more than 60 injured.
Further up the mountain, there are still climbers trapped in camp I and II, after the avalanche swept away the route through the Khumbu Icefall, although no-one above base camp was killed.
Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected by this awful tragedy.
