Everyone loves a bit of #VanLife in their lives. Whether it’s looking at photos of vans, sitting in vans, driving to and fro in a van, or reading stories about people who turned the road-trippin’ van-dream into a full-on reality; nothing on earth beats the untapped potential of a parked van.
Introducing Russ Moen (aka “The Van Man”). Now, of course, there’s a good chance you might not have heard of Russ Moen before. “Who is Russ Moen?” you might be thinking, “What’s Russ Moen got to do with me?” And that’s OK, you’re allowed to ask these things. We haven’t told you anything about him yet (except for “The Van Man” thing).
In a nutshell, Moen is the man/legend responsible for transforming a 1954 Chevrolet cab-over truck into the beautiful machine you saw at the top of this article. Moen calls it the Tourliner, and here at Mpora we think it might just be one of the loveliest things we’ve ever seen.
According to Moen, the Tourliner’s tapered shape makes it a master of carving through cross winds. It’s high-powered 12-valve Cummins engine was built by Malcolm Cross, a diesel drag racer and owner of Harbor City Diesel, so if you’re wondering what sort of heat this thing is packing let that nugget of information tell you everything you need to know.
When you factor in that this thing weighs a relatively lightweight 10,000 pounds, you’re left looking at a gnarly beast capable of leaving your gran/granddad’s caravan spluttering in the dust somewhere on the A3.
Rather than just rely on mirrors, Moen has put Vision Tech cameras on the exterior: two mounted in the 1939 Chevrolet taillights at the front steps, and a third one at the back. These extra sets of “eyes” on the Tourliner are beamed to the overhead console. Pretty neat, we think you’ll agree.
Now, we could go on and on at you about the Tourliner. We could talk about the luscious leather seats, the in-built shower and toilet system, the teak and maple floor, and the birch and cherry cabinet; we could do this…but we’re not going to. Instead, we’re going to let these pictures do the talking for us.
