Marcus Kleveland may not be old enough to legally buy a beer, but he’s just done something that you will never do*. He’s landed a quad cork on a snowboard.
The trick, a backside quadruple cork 1800 to give it its full name, was first landed by British rider Billy Morgan back in April. Canadian Max Parrot stomped a cab quad variant shortly afterwards, but the Norwegian teenager is only the third person ever to do this trick.
That in itself is undoubtedly impressive, but what makes the achievement even more so is the fact that unlike Billy and Max, Marcus didn’t have a special jump built for him, he landed the trick on an ordinary kicker on the Stubai glacier, where many top pros gather to train in the pre-season.
Marcus has previous with ground-breaking tricks of course – he announced himself to the snowboarding world in style by stomping a triple cork – something that only a few riders had landed at that stage – at the age of just 13.
So what’s next? Well, we’re assuming that it’s only a matter of time before someone throws one of these in a competition – most likely at the X Games or the Air & Style. And Marcus could well be the man for the job.
And with Big Air recently confirmed as an Olympic event, we’re willing to bet that this won’t be the last step up in rotation we see before Pyeongchang 2018.
