Avalanches are dangerous. Avalanches can kill. Avalanches are not fun. These words are etched into the brain of every mountaineer, snowboarder and skier.
This footage, which was filmed last month in the Kamchatka region of Russia, captured the incredible moment when snowboarder David Carrier Porcheron rode out of an avalanche with his life intact.
Perhaps more amazingly though, than this lucky escape, is the fact that a white hare can be seen scampering into and across the cascading snow.
When you watch the clip in normal time, you can just see the white hare running from the right-hand side of the frame before disappearing into the avalanche.
At that point, you’re thinking “…yep, that white hare is definitely dead.” However, as the slow-motion reveals, the white hare miraculously hops its way to the other side and survives.
We’re not sure if the white hare knew what it was getting itself in for when it ran towards the avalanche, but I think we can all agree that it’s one seriously gnarly animal.
