Richard Forne has walked away with a £10,000 prize and the chance to work with Relentless Energy drink in 2012 for his emotive portrait of, Relentless Energy Rider, Nikki Croft’s recovery from a serious brain injury, ‘Good morning Gravity.’ Richard came out on top against five other talented young filmmakers to be crowned the winner of the 2011 Short Stories filmmaking competition, sponsored by Relentless Energy Drink.
The crash Nikki had in October 2010 left him physically and mentally shattered and it was his slow, occasionally painful, but ultimately uplifting recover that Richard captured so well in “Gravity”. The films stunning mix of narrative flow and beautiful cinematography captured the judge’s imagination.
Film producer, founder of the Vertigo Films and judging panellist, Allan Niblo, said the film offers “the perfect insight into the head of Nikki Croft, how his accident affected him and his comeback to riding, all without feeling rushed”
The recent winner’s party also saw an exclusive sneak preview of, last year’s winner, Mickey Smith’s new project “To the Storm.” Mickey, whose 2010 entry was the internationally acclaimed “Dark Side of the Lens”, has been working with Relentless Energy Drink to create a striking picture of his beloved Irish Coast and those dedicated surfers who ride the big waves throughout the winter.
With Mickey expanding the themes that made “Dark Side” so brilliant, a spiritual connection with the sea, the sacrifices made for the surf, “To the Storm” looks set to be an inspiring piece of work when it comes out in 2012.
