Camping Stoves: Which Are The Best Camping Stoves In The UK?

Camping stoves are an essential piece of equipment - how do you decide which is the best camping stove for you?

Camping stoves might not sound like the most exciting piece of camping equipment – they aren’t survival knives after all – but getting your hands on one of the best stoves around can really make a difference to your trip.

Firstly, it depends where you will be taking your stove. Are you backpacking for a week and need something compact and lightweight to fit into your bag? Or are you heading out on a family holiday in a campervan?

Camping: Here’s Everything You Need To Know

You also need to work out whether you want a gas canister camping stove or one that runs on liquid fuel. Gas canisters are lightweight and easy to carry, while liquid fuel is non-pressurised and works better in cold temperatures and at altitude.

Whether you are a member of the Camping And Caravanning Club or just spending time outdoors, we’ve got the rundown of the very best camping stoves in the UK.

Make sure you take a look at our guide on the best camping food here.

1) BEST FOR WEEKEND CAMPERS: Jetboil Mini-Mo Stove

Price: £121.50

Jetboils are great stoves because they are designed to boil water as quickly as possible.

The Mini-Mo is very compact and lightweight, ideal for first time campers who want something small enough to carry on one or two day trips.

The entire stove packs neatly away into into the cooking cup and is very easy to eat out of. You can also buy a Jetboil coffee press or frying pan to use with it.

If you’re heading to the mountains, this stove will work consistently even at temperatures of -6°C. It will become one of your most essential camping accessories.

2) BEST FOR LIGHTWEIGHT LONG-DISTANCE TRAVELLERS: Trangia 25 Camping Stove Cook Set

Price: £54

Trangia camping stoves are designed to stay alight even in the harshest of storms.

Made in Sweden, they are tough and reasonably priced with ingeniously designed windshields to protect the burner from the elements.

You don’t have to be hiking to Everest base camp to warrant using one. Trangias are used by school kids hiking the Duke of Edinburgh to backpacking the Appalachian Trail and beyond.

This set comes with a couple of pans, a combined lid/frypan, and a handle, ideal for cooking for three to four people.

Trangias run on alcohol fuel (rather than gas – although you can buy gas adapters) which means it’s more eco-friendly and much quieter than a hissing gas stove.

If you’re camping in a big group or as a family, one tiny stove just isn’t going to do. Similarly if you like a gourmet approach to wilderness cooking.

This beast from American company Coleman has two independently operated burners – designed with Hyperflame technology which cuts boiling time by nearly 50 per cent in windy conditions.

The FyreChampion runs on propane which means it is still efficient in cold temperatures and when the fuel is running low. It comes with a griddle as well – ideal for the bacon lovers among us.

4) BEST FOR ENVIRONMENTALISTS: BioLite Camp Stove

You don’t need to buy any fuel whatsoever with this amazingly nifty camp stove.

The BioLite runs entirely on wood – twigs, bark, pinecones – pretty much anything you can find in a forest. So you can boil a litre of water in under five minutes (yes, really!)

It also doubles up as a cool camp gadget. The excess heat is used to fire up a electricity generator which charges your phone via. USB cable. How amazing is that?
