JetBoil MiniMo Camping Stove | Review

The JetBoil MiniMo offers unbeatable stability without sacrificing cooking speed

Usually when you’re taking the camping stove out of your backpack, you’ve either put in a shift on the hiking trails already or you’ve just woken up and are getting ready for a big day ahead. Either way, the last thing you want is a fuss when you get cooking, which is why something like the JetBoil MiniMo Cooking System is great.

The MiniMo is a single pot system with an integral heat exchanger clipping onto the burner unit. There’s an insulating sleeve around the pot and it’s designed to pack away into a tight fit. The big boast of the cooking system is that it offers unmatchable simmer control – finer, it says than “any upright canister system on the market” – and that it’s incredibly stable.

The company’s proprietary regulator technology and enhanced regulator diaphragm ensure that the control works consistently, with performance not dropping in cold temperatures until you get down to -6 celsius, significantly more impressive than many rival camp stoves. The design of the cooking cup also means that you’ll get more stability over the stove than you would with other products.

“The main selling point of this is ease of use and reliability.”

The fold-out metal handles on the MiniMo are much easier to use than strap-systems deployed on other cooking systems and speed hasn’t been sacrificed for the stability either. This thing can still bring water to the boil almost as fast as any.

The control and the temperature benefits are definitely the big draws behind the MiniMo, but they’ve added a few smaller features to update the product in recent years too.

The redesigned cooking cup means that it’s incredibly easy now to cook in the pot and then eat straight out of it – with the height, weight and handles designed specifically for doing just that – saving time on other dishes and indeed saving the need to bring them along at all. They even write about the “lower spoon angle” of the latest release, which basically just means the cup is a bit shallower and easier to eat from.

You can even buy accessories including a coffee press, hanging kit and further pot support to improve the system further. But really the main selling point of this is ease of use and reliability. If that’s what you’re after, then look no further than the JetBoil MiniMo.
