Amazing New Pictures From NASA Appear To Show A Massive Animal On The Surface Of Mars

Has the red planet got crabs?

The internet is currently alight with rumours that the NASA Mars Rover has taken a picture that proves there’s life on the red planet.

Pictures were beamed down from the planetary explorer down to Earth, and sharp eyed space fans noticed what looked like a crab, or even a Face Hugger, like the ones from 1986 James Cameron film, AND WORK OF FICTION, Aliens.

However, it has now been confirmed that it’s nothing more than an odd rock formation, deep in a crevasse.

The fact we see a crab, or other familiar objects is all down to a phenomena called pareidolia. Basically, it’s when our brain sees a shape, and adapts it in our mind to fit something we already know.

It’s the same thing that makes us think we can see a face in the moon, or the shapes of animals in clouds. In short, your brain can Photoshop, even if you can’t.

Sadly, this also probably means that the face of pop star David Bowie spotted on Mars two weeks ago is almost certainly just in our heads as well.
