Professional freediver Liz Parkinson proved that sharks aren’t the killing machines they’re often made out to be this week, with an underwater photoshoot on a shipwreck.
The diver and environmentalist posed on a shipwreck in Stuart Cove in the Bahamas, for a shoot with ocean encounters company Prawno.
The 32 year old diver has been diving with sharks for the past 16 years and wants to dispel the myth that they’re only interesting in eating anything around them.
“The sharks sometimes get a bit curious, but often they couldn’t care less that we’re there” Parkinson said to Caters in an interview.
“A world without the monster myth from Jaws and Hollywood, is a more caring world!”
“You’re more likely to get killed by a vending machine than a shark… The point of my shots is to make people question human abilities and scary animals.”
These photos are just the latest in a trend of divers and environmentalists working to educate the public on shark’s true behavior.
