This Heartbreaking Video Will Make You Never Want To Visit An Orca Whale Show Again

This footage from the whale's perspective is one of the saddest things we've seen

Have you ever wondered what life looks like from a captive orca whale’s perspective? This four minute film broke our hearts.

Morgan is an orca whale who was captured in 2010 while swimming alone in the waters off the Netherlands.

She was taken to a theme park under a ‘rescue, rehabilitation and release’ permit. However, she was kept in a small tank and made to perform tricks to the public in daily shows.

Morgan is now kept in a zoo in Tenerife called Loro Parque where she continues to spend her life living in a tank.

This photo shows the wear on Morgan’s teeth from chewing on the concrete. The trainers and vet of Loro Parque claim this is ‘normal’. Photo: Free Morgan Foundation

Filmed by the Free Morgan Foundation, this four minute film gives a really powerful insight into what it’s like to live in captivity – through an orca’s eyes.

If you’ve watched the film Blackfish, you’ll understand exactly how much damage is done to these creatures by living in captivity.

Morgan currently lives with other orcas not from her native ‘family’ group, so she is often attacked by the other orcas.

The situation with Morgan is not normal and is definitely not acceptable

She also has sores on her mouth after trying to gnaw her concrete tank.

Watch the film below and you’ll see what we mean. You can read more about Morgan’s story on the Free Morgan Foundation website here.
