10 Early Morning Workouts To Get You Moving Before The Office

Sponsored Content: Now the mornings are bright, get your body going before the day begins....

Making time to workout during a busy working week is tough.

While we all know that sitting in an office isn’t good for our bodies, it’s pretty difficult to motivate yourself to go and get moving after a long day of concentrating.

Now the mornings are starting earlier, feeling warmer and looking brighter, it’s got to the perfect time of year to get into the habit of making exercise the first thing you do in the morning.

Think you’re just not a morning person? Have a go at committing yourself to one of these before work exercises for four mornings this week. We bet you’ll change your mind!

 On Your Bike

Cycling commuting has been growing and growing around the UK recently.

For those of us living in a city, cycling to work not only saves money, but also time – Most cycle commutes from Zone 2 to central London take half the time of the same route on the tube!

Cycling is a great cardio workout for raising your heartbeat and increasing muscle strength and flexibility. As a low impact exercise, anyone can get started and start feeling the benefits straight away.

Best of all? The fitter you get, the faster you’ll get. Which means the longer you get to lie in before work!

Take Time To Stretch

Don’t be fooled into thinking that a morning workout has to mean getting all hot and sweaty before the office, taking time to do yoga in the mornings has many different benefits for your body, your overall health and your mood for the rest of the day.

Morning yoga is great both for focusing yourself on a healthy mindset for the upcoming hours and for getting a feel of how healthy you were yesterday and how that’s made you feel.

Whether it be at a class, or in your own room, take half an hour in the sun to go through your routine every morning when you wake. You’ll be amazed how much more connected to your own body and health you become.

Quick HIIT

HIIT workouts (high intensity interval training) are a perfect choice for morning exercise.

Lasting as little as 10 minutes, these workouts focus on short periods of high intensity, anaerobic, cardio and weight training and can quickly improve a person’s athletic capacity and speed up their metabolism.

If you like to really burn those calories during a workout, but have limited time before work in the mornings, this is the exercise for you. In and out of the gym in no time at all, HIIT workouts have shown to keep burning calories for hours after your workout has finished!

Sunny Morning Swim

One of the best things about a summer in the city is the Lidos. There’s something incredibly refreshing about swimming outdoors, compared to the heated rooms of leisure centers.

Most Lidos in London open as early as 6am in the summer months and with sunrise now at 5am, the keen bees among us can easily go for a lovely morning swim before heading into work.

The most relaxing morning you can have before the working day kicks in!

Go For A Stroll

You might think that long strolls in the sunshine are an activity saved for Sunday afternoons, but in reality they could be the answer to your exercising woes.

Whether you live close to your office or far away, change up your morning commute to walk for at least half an hour in the morning to reach your desk.

Walking for under an hour can still burn an amazing amount of calories and its been found that walking at a constant speed for over half an hour can be more effective for burning fat than running the same distance everyday.

Put your headphones in and your favourite album on, and enjoy a brisk stroll in the sun through your city.

Take 10 Before Breakfast

With all the noise surrounding us all the time about the latest new health and fitness trends, its easy to forget how easy it is to simply get out of bed and do a workout in your own front room.

Set your alarm for 30 minutes earlier than usual and put your workout clothes next to your bed for the morning, before you go to sleep.

Plan out a routine of bodyweight and heartbeat raising exercises lasting 25 minutes and make a playlist on your Spotify to match it. When your alarm goes off, get out of bed straight away and drink a large glass of water before starting your workout.

By the time your usual alarm goes off you’ll be feeling great and ready to jump in the shower!

Run To Work

Running to the office is not just the activity of super fit people, its an easy way to fit in a workout for all of us.

Find out how far away your office is from your front door and plan either a 5k or 10k run, or if you’re feeling brave – just run the whole way!

12 Races In The UK For Anyone Who Loves To Run

Running in the morning is a great way to get your body moving and burning any leftover calories from the day before, as well as also being one of the best ways to promote an optimistic mindset about your day ahead.

Get those trainers laced and give it a go, its not as hard as it seems – we promise!

Work On Your Core

Pilates often gets forgotten behind the Instagrammable yoga trends, but its an amazing way to work on a solid fitness base and can improve your fitness in all areas.

With an emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance, practicing Pilates every morning will change your body into one that craves exercise at the end of the day, instead of hiding from it.

Whatever your current physical limitations, you can start practicing Pilates on your own terms. Intensity can be increased over time and other more intense workouts can be added in to create a fuller workout.

Get Jiggy With It

Nothing creates endorphins quite as well as a workout with a great playlist.

Morning Zumba classes can take the dullest, longest Wednesday into your own personal party. Get yourself jumping around to your favourite songs at your nearest gym, then have a quick shower.

You’ll be smiling over your coffee and cereal and ready to face whatever the day throws at you.

Go For A Spin

Spinning is still one of the best ways to get a quick, hardcore workout in a short amount of time.

Go to your nearest gym and find out which classes you can fit into your weekly routine. Some gyms have now start doing ‘Express Spin’ classes, lasting only half an hour and working on the same principles as HIIT workouts, they’e great if you need to be in that meeting by 9am.

Get on the bike and get your body really working, before you have to sit down and focusing on using your brain till 5pm.
