This October sees the inaugural Tough Sh!t event – a mud obstacle race with a difference…
What exactly is it?
Bog racing – but not as you know it.
Tough Sh!t is WaterAid’s all-new, all-muddy fundraiser: 20 toilet-themed obstacles over a 10k course in Camberley, Surrey.
Obstacles include the Toilet Toil, Sewers Canal and Porta Slide and Bunged up Bungee
The delightfully named obstacles include the Toilet Toil, Sewers Canal and Porta Slide and Bunged up Bungee – not to mention the Sh!t Heap Scramble. Lovely.
But there is a reason why WaterAid is chatting sh!t. A massive 2.5 billion people worldwide (that’s one in three) don’t have a decent toilet – causing diseases to spread easily. Now that’s worth dodging the Swinging Bog Brushes for.
How fit do you need to be?
Reasonably fit. It’s 10k and the obstacles involving climbing, splashing through water and running – so don’t expect a totally easy ride. But training plans are available on the Tough Sh!t website and your loo buddies will see you through.
Any tips?
You may feel like a superhero, but leave the cape at home (unless you want to snag yourself on an obstacle). Instead go for close-fitting clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy and soaked through.
What Do People Say About It?
Nowt, it’s the first one. But there’s a bit of interest brewing. Well, @Meleesonchik (76 followers, folks) tweeted “This looks brilliant!” It’s practically viral. But, to be fair, it is in October.
How Do I Sign Up?
Visit the official Tough Sh!t page to sign up for this historic first event. The price starts at £50 but increases to as much as £85 the closer you get to the big day (24 October), so get in early.
Also, the earlier you or your team book, the more chance you have of securing your fave start time (competitors go in ‘flushes’ of 200 – every 20 minutes). Well, you can’t all go to the loo at the same time.
Entry fee includes a finisher’s t-shirt and medal.
