Just What Do Pro Rugby Players Eat Every day?

We asked a professional rugby nutritionist for the lowdown and to share the team's fave recipes

4. Snack: Protein Brownies

The nutritionist’s take: “So many of the players have a sweet tooth, but these brownies are a good compromise. The protein powder is good for aiding recovery after a game or heavy training session, but they do still taste (almost) as good as sugar-heavy brownies.”

Makes: 8 brownies

Ingredients

  • 175g Greek non-fat yoghurt
  • 60ml skimmed milk
  • 3 tablespoons agave nectar
  • 55g  unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (such as MaxiNutrition Promax)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder 35g wholewheat flour

Frosting:

  • 2 tablespoons chocolate protein powder
  • 125ml Greek yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons splenda

Method

• Preheat the oven to 175°C.

• For the brownies, blend together yoghurt, milk, sugar and egg in a medium bowl. In a small bowl stir together the cocoa, protein powder, baking powder and flour.

• Gently stir the dry ingredients into the wet until just incorporated and pour into an 8×8 inch tray.

• Bake for about 20-25 mins.

• For the frosting, in a bowl blend all the ingredients together, spread on top of the brownies when cooled and serve.
