Yes, microdown jackets keep you warm. Yes, a fleece is lightweight. Yes, a merino baselayer traps air efficiently. But no, none of them feel as cosy as a big lambswool jumper. None have that – beware: technical term here – snuggle factor. None is as pleasant to pop on with a pair of jeans in a mountain hut after a long day on the trails. And none we’ve found are as lovely as the Fjällräven Övik sweater.
This beautifully patterned garment – inspired by Nordic folklore and not a snowflake or reindeer in sight – is made from a soft, warm wool. Not that it’s just meant for fika by the fire. Wool’s natural properties are well documented: it wicks moisture away from a baselayer and insulates even when cold.
“Fjällräven believe in wool’s natural properties so much, they have started a sheep farm to just to study how to care for sheep and develop best practice.”
