Hiking, in this country especially, is often associated with middle-aged people going for gentle strolls in the Lincolnshire Wolds. And that’s fine. There’s plenty of nice hiking to be done in the Lincolnshire Wolds, and we’d encourage anyone to do it.
However, ever so often along comes some footage that blows apart the preconceived notions you have about how tame hiking can be. It reminds you that hiking, if you’re not careful, can properly fuck you up.
This truly shocking video, filmed in the Aconcagua region of Argentina, shows the terrifying moment some hikers were nearly swept away by an absolutely enormous landslide. It’s fair to say that a couple more seconds down in the gully, and these hikers would have been dead for sure. As close-shaves go, it’s right up there.
