Let’s face it, it’s always nice when your feet are comfortable. Whether you’re walking along pleasant country lanes or up craggy mountain hikes, the experience is always so much better when your feet feel totally in-sync with the shoes you’re wearing. Some shoes talk the talk in this regard. Others, specifically the Moab FST Low from Merrell, walk the walk…literally.
First things first, let’s talk about the all important Vibram MegaGrip outsole. Why? Because it provides a truly superb combination of stickiness and durability on both wet and dry surfaces. Factor in the moulded nylon arch shank and the Merrell air cushion in the heel that absorbs shock and adds stability when you need it most, and you’re looking at a product that really knows how to tackle the challenges thrown up by rugged terrain. The 5mm depth on the lugs is another plus point here.
“Aesthetically-pleasing, comfortable from the get-go, and able to take a real beating on the trails; the Moab FST Low is a brilliant shoe.”
Of course, there’s not much worse than an activewear shoe that isn’t breathable. Fortunately, the breathable mesh lining on the Moab FST Low means this isn’t an issue. Talking of impressive features, something else we really liked with these shoes is the Merrell M Select Fit.Eco blended EVA contoured footbed with organic odour control. Say “goodbye” to smelly feet, and “hello” to a glove-like fit (thanks to increased contact underfoot).
The TPU parts of the Moab’s upper offers first-rate resistance to dirt and abrasions, while the mesh parts of the upper provide more of that widely welcomed breathability. The traditional lace closure gets a thumbs up from us, as does the bellows tongue which is perfect for keeping debris out.
Aesthetically-pleasing, comfortable from the get-go, and able to take a real beating on the trails; the Moab FST Low is a brilliant option for those looking to get a lighter more athletically-styled outdoor shoe. Merrell really know what they’re doing when it comes to footwear, and this highly recommended product is no exception.
