Sasta are a brand that we came across via a chap on Instagram called Anton Kalland. He posts stunning pictures that document his hiking and camping with his dog in snow-coated Finland, and he always seems to be wearing their kit.
Based out of a town set deep within the Boreal Forest, Sasta design and produce gear for the outdoors that has a real heritage look – and it’s completely authentic, as you’d expect from a brand in such a location.
They were originally founded in 1969 to provide subtle, durable and protective clothing to wear for hunting and fishing – two national pastimes in Finland – and they continue to cater for this market today while also making a successful hiking line also.
“They’re extremely durable trousers, the kind you could really put through the wringer and expect to always come out on the right side.”
They design products that use modern technology like Gore-Tex and Polartec but they also have stuff that’s traditional, using old techniques that have stood the test of time when used in the challenging environments of Finland.
Kit like these trousers, the Sasta Anton. They’re extremely durable trousers, the kind you could really put through the wringer and expect to always come out on the right side.
They’re made from 30% polyester and 70% recycled wool, a blend that combines a number of useful properties. Not only is it extremely durable, it’s also very warm. We wore the Antons on a snowy wild camp in the Brecon Beacons during midwinter and found that they were some of the warmest and most comfortable trousers we’ve tried.
