The Right Fit

When buying any new show, getting the right fit is important, but when buying hiking boots for walking hundreds of miles, like any sort of  it becomes incredibly important.

When trying a pair of hiking boots on, remember to do these five important tests.

  1. Remove the insole– Instead of squeezing your foot into a boot, remove its insole at measure it to your foot. It should be slightly bigger on both the toes and the heel. If it’s the same size or smaller, the boots will pinch and rub.
  2. Make sure the tongue is central– This is one of the main reasons for discomfort and rubbing in seemingly fitting shoes. If the tongue sits at the side of your foot, they aren’t the boots for you.
  3. Walk up a slope, focus on toes – Figuring out if your feet are going to slip around inside the hiking boots, when you’re half way through a hike is
  4. Walk up slope, focus on crease in shoe upper- We all know the pain of a hard leather crease on the top of your foot. Don’t discover it half way up a mountain, much better in the store.
  5. Walk down slope, stamp feet- Do your feet hit the front of the hiking boot? Take them off, these are not the shoes for you.
